Brittany Coast Walking Tour - Day Two - by Wayne

Today was the second day of our walking tour. Yesterday—day onewe explored Lambelle, a small town that boasts a population of just over 10,000 souls.

Today we walked about 5 to 6 hours.  The plan over the next week is to walk each second day and use the day in between to explore sites, beaches and cuisine locale.

Today we walked 17.3km from Port Dahouët to Stables-d'Or-Le-Pins following GR34.  The GR34—Sentier des Douaniers—is one of many walking trails in France.  This trail provides wonderful views of the English Channel from high cliffs as well as opportunity to walk numerous small beaches and to smell and touch the salt water. Many argue that Brittany has the best coastal scenery of all of France.

Along the way we passed several historic pill boxes and gun emplacements, presumably constructed by the Germans during their occupation of France during WW2.

Sables-d'Or-les-Pins started out as a French Seaside resort, which an entrepreneur attempted to create in the 1920’s.  Due to the Great Depression, the resort never materialised, and the area became a popular for family batches.

GR34 not only takes you through small Towns, but Framland - like the one shown here.
It appears that the majority of the area is used to grow wheat and corn.
